Bokaro steel mines college, Bhawnathpur has been imparting higher education in the utmost backward, poverty stricken, and extremism affected area of Jharkhand since 1984. The college is established in a small block Bhawnathpur of district Garhwa which is lying in the lap of nature and covers the three neighboring states- Bihar, U.P and Chhattisgarh. The college was established in 1984 by the local educationists and veterans of the locality to meet the requirements of the local students, especially the feminist class. The nearest constituent unit is 55 km away from it. Due to the inconvenience of transportation the feminist class of the society was unable to have higher education. The crucial economical condition of the deprived people of the society didn’t allow them to send their ward outside to acquire higher degree of education.

The college always rises to take major initiatives to render quality based and job-oriented education through curricular and extra – curricular activities under the least fee structure. The college has to face a number of challenges due to lack of sound financial status but with the cooperation of the staff employed in the college, it always tries to fulfill its motto. The college possesses a sound infrastructure and has acquired permanent affiliation in the faculty of Arts and Commerce and temporary affiliation in the faculty of science from Ranchi University Ranchi in the year2008, and now is the part of Nilamber-Pitamber University, Medininagar. The college has been running all three faculties successfully since then. There are a number of opportunities to initiate vocational courses because of being in an industrial periphery.
